Animals Use Illusion to Romance Mates

Male bowerbirds decorate stage-like structures to create an optical illusion to lure possible mates. Illusions of this sort “are artificial geometric arrangements that are not normally found in nature, but mimic parts of natural scene that have nothing to do with the actual scenes,”  according to John Endler, co-author of a study published in the journal Science.
